Brownhill Insurance Group is a family-run insurance brokerage based in Bromley, South-East London. Formed in 1980, the business has continued to succeed and evolve into different insurance markets across three generations of leadership.
In 2023, Brownhill took part in and won a competition held by RONIN at Bromley FC, which offered fellow sponsors the opportunity of rebranding their corporate identity. The timing could not have been better, as Brownhill was undergoing some changes and were looking to refresh their brand to help with future marketing opportunities.
A key request was to create a brand identity that reflected their family heritage, and during our research and planning we discovered that the Brownhill name dates back to the Middle Ages and they have a family crest which incorporated a chevron on a shield – both are symbols that represent ‘protection’. Which seemed quite fitting for an insurance company.
We explored numerous concepts and ideas, using both the shield and chevron, whilst also exploring colours and typography. And the final design was based on replacing a traditional shield shape with something more contemporary – utilising the chevron to not only represent ‘protection’, but also forming a modern graphic that hints at offering ‘guidance’.
In addition to creating a new identity for the group, we also developed two additional logos for their commercial and private insurance services, each used unique colours that could work alongside the group identity.
The new brand identity was then used across several aspects of the business, from print and digital assets to sponsorship and marketing channels.
I was really impressed with how much work and research was involved with a rebrand. We’re really grateful for the great job the team at RONIN has done and we’re very delighted with the final result.
