05 Oct RONIN MEET THE TEAM – BALBINA
How long have you worked at RONIN?
A mere two weeks, so I’m very much the newbie!
What’s your background? i.e. qualifications, past experience
I graduated with a degree in History, specialising in Eastern European & Russian History. Quite niche, I know, but it meant a Year Abroad building up a tolerance to vodka and feasting on pierogi. After university, I fell into a recruitment role at a small charity. It was a rewarding experience, but just not quite right for me. Once I had accepted that writing was wired into my fingertips, I embarked on a search for a communications role and with a bit of persistence and a whole lot of luck, I landed at Ronin.
What does your day-to-day job involve?
I’m still navigating my way around the role, but the general gist of it is creating copy for a broad spectrum of clients, chasing up press opportunities, social media planning & generally helping my colleagues – whether it’s by providing content or cups of tea.
What’s your favourite part of the job?
I love the fact that it’s so varied – we have clients in numerous different industries and sectors, so I can be blogging about kitchen cabinets in the morning, before finishing the day researching housing trends for an infographic.
What social media platform could you not live without?
Instagram. I can spend hours scrooling (scrolling & drooling, FYI) over all the #foodporn on my feed.
What are your interests outside of work?
Baking! I create cakes as well as copy, and spend my spare time designing bespoke cakes and making OTT cake decorations. Gold leaf seashell meringues & hand-crafted unicorns, anyone? I’m pretty certain that my offer to use the Ronin Team as my recipe-testers is what actually cinched me the job.
Who would play you in a film about your life?
I’d love to say someone effortlessly cool like Natalie Portman or Emma Stone, but realistically it would probably just be me awkwardly narrating embarrassing moments in my life. There’s plenty of material, trust me.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Trashy novels – I use my Kindle to read them undetected and thus, unashamed. Also, I can’t resist ice-cream.
If you had to describe yourself in three words, what would they be?
Excitable, vertically-challenged & a perfectionist.
We’re off to the pub – what’s your order?
A double vodka & diet lemonade, please. Or if we’re doing cocktails, a Long Island Iced Tea – I like to get more booze for my buck!
