17 Dec RONIN Meet The Team – Marie
How long have you worked at RONIN?
I’ve worked in RONIN since the 16th of March.
What’s your background? i.e. qualifications, past experience
My background is predominantly art orientated, I studied English literature and History of art for my undergraduate degree, and followed this up at the University of Edinburgh with an MSc in Modern Art: History, Curating and Criticism. However, following my masters, I moved to China, and had my first experience in, I guess, marketing; I was an editorial intern at The World of Chinese. I had always wanted to write, and I loved it. After a wonderfully adventurous period of travelling I returned briefly to Ireland, where I worked on a small newspaper writing features at a freelance capacity. A couple of months later, I returned to London and the art world, and reality at large, to work in a gallery based in North London, I always knew I’d end up in London at some point. Here I found that marketing and PR, that level of communication, was what I wanted to pursue. I love people – most of the time. With some great experience (and experiences) under my belt I moved onto work for another magazine – fashion this time, but with a strong nod towards culture and diversity – as a PR assistant. Again loved it. Worked on my leadership while at a catering company, before landing on RONIN’s doorstep, eager to get started.
What does your day-to-day job involve?
Everyday is different for me. I’ve just started; I have a great deal to learn.
What’s your favourite part of the job?
Learning and writing. Learning about things I had not known of before, and writing, writing with purpose.
What social media platform could you not live without?
It’s antiquated, but Facebook – it has enabled me to keep contact with people no matter where I am in the world. But I love Twitter most of all… and Instagram… and Pinterest – I had to cut myself off… and well… all.
What are you interests outside of work?
Art, theatre, film, literature (just formed a book club – there are three of us), culture (all), travelling and social studies (I’m all about the fieldwork).
Who would play you in a film about your life?
Me. (This may sound conceited, but, I feel, if they’re going to make a film about me well I’ve gained some social standing and therefore it’s not unreasonable that I ask to play myself.)
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Kylie. I know all of the lyrics, which is major cause I never know the lyrics – I usually just make them up.
If you had to describe yourself in three words, what would they be?
Adventure/experience-seeker, shy, independent
We’re off to the pub – what’s your order?
Depends on my mood, but my default order would be a glass of red.
